Schuylkill Haven kicked off the holidays on November 27th with its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. It is something my children and I have always loved doing as a family, and this year was no exception. My children loved seeing the displays go up in November on Parkway and waited anxiously until the Tree Lighting, although sometimes some of the displays lit up at night before that day. It was a magical time for them, and they swore that Santa hid in the big Christmas tree during the ceremony to spy on all the children who have come out with their families for the evening.
While my children were a bit disappointed about the lack of parade this year, they were overjoyed with the festivities from Christmas on Main which served as the replacement for the downtown open house and parade. They loved seeing Santa, doing crafts, hearing the carolers, taking a ride on the carriage, and visiting all the shops around town. They can’t wait to do it next year!
Seeing my children’s enthusiasm about Schuylkill Haven‘s events, reinforces to me the value of our town’s revitalization efforts. The amount of activities that we have for the holiday season is awesome, and I would love to see them grow even better! I want my children to have the same holiday memories about their town that I had about my hometown when I was a kid.
